Happy halloween

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!  I realize I'm a bit late with my Halloween post but its been crazy around here!  On my last post you saw my skull cake which was rather frightening but seriously awesome!  I also made some pumpkin cake pops that were delish and some pumpkin cupcakes with sugar sheet spider webs on them!

Easiest pumpkin muffin recipe EVER!
Pumpkin Muffins
-1 yellow cake mix
-1 can of pumpkin pie filling
Mix the 2 ingredients together.  Bake for 12 minutes at 350 degrees.  Top with cream cheese icing.

This is my neighbor's daughter!  She was a cupcake for Halloween!  FABULOUS!

Skull

Skull Cake

Happy Halloween!  I made this cake for my friend who works at the local hospital!  It came out so creepy but AWESOME!  I started with a dome cake and carved the skull out of it.  I added yellow and brown dye to the icing to get the aged look then dusted brown cake powder on it to give it more definition.

Here is a doctor at the hospital about to do a lobotomy on the cake!

Pirate Ship

Jake and the Never land Pirates

This cake is a pirate ship made for a little boy who loves Jake the Never land Pirates.  The family added the characters after I delivered the cake so that is why it looks deserted! no pun intended :)  This cake started as a sheet cake and i just cut and stacked! The back piece is a huge sheet of chocolate that I cut out and rounded.  The posts are chocolate covered pretzels and I piped the wheel out of chocolate as well!  YUM YUM YUM!

Here is another pirate ship I made with the pirates! - Arrghhh

Mustang

The Mustang Cake

One of my good friends drives a Mustang and loves everything about it!  I created this cake for his birthday with the mustang logo as well as the ford logo.  I just put his name in it instead of Ford.  I molded the horse myself then painted it with silver cake powder!

Sandvich

The "Sandvich"

No I did not spell it wrong!  The video game Team Fortress II has a character in it that carries around a Sandwich but he spells is "Sandvich".  This cake is a copy of of "sandvich" in the game!

Here is the "sandvich" in the game -

Here is the cake version!

Cartoons

Lightening McQueen

I'm pretty sure there isn't a child out there that doesn't love the movie Cars!  Here is a cake made to resemble Lightening McQueen.  This started out as a sheet cake a 6" round.  I carved, cut and pieced in order to create the car!

Archery

Archery Cake

This cake was for a little boys archery birthday party.  Happy Birthday is carved into the bark and everything!

I also made cupcakes to match the cake!

Music

Music

This cake was ordered for a 40th Birthday, in Auburn Colors, with music notes.  That was a lot of information to get on one cake!  Here is what I came up with ......

This cake was ordered for a 13 year old who loves One Direction!

Yoda

Yoda Cake

I made this cake for a huge Star Wars fan!  Yoda is made all out of fondant. Yummy he is..........

States

States

State outlines are a great way to personalize any cake!

This cake I made for my parents anniversary!  NJ is the state they were born in and got married in 1979.  Now in 2012 they live in North Carolina, have 2 kids and 1 grandson! Oh and their wedding color was light blue!

This was a cake for a girl moving to Minnesota.  The stars are set exactly where each town is in the state!

Tiffany's Cake

Tiffany's Cake

Cake is a girls best friend! Especially when it is the teal box!!

Masquerade Cake

Masquerade Cake

This cake was made fora  masquerade party!  I made my sister lay on the floor, put plastic wrap over her eyes and nose then laid a piece of fondant/gum paste mix over it so I could get the face shape :)  The girls party colors were navy, black and silver.  I even made the feathers by rolling out the gum paste really thin then scoring it to create the tattered effect.

Art Work Cake

Art Work Cake

Who said art had to be 2-D?  Every single one of my cakes is a piece of art but this one was extra artsy!  I re-created Van Gogh's The Starry Night out of incing on this cake!!

Wedding Cakes

Wedding Cakes!

Well its that time of  year again! Wedding season! Cake is a huge part of a wedding!  There are two main parts of a wedding reception that focus just on the couples!  Their first dance and the cutting of the cake!

Here is a wedding cake I made for a black and white themed wedding!  Each of the flowers are hand made out of gum paste.  The black swirled ribbons are cut from sugar sheets!  Everything on the cake is edible!

This is a cake I made for a  co-worker of mine!  They had a small wedding party at their house a few weeks after they got married.  They did not need a huge cake but there is no reason why they couldn't have a fancy one!

This cake I made for a sweet young couple!  Their flower was the blue hydrangea which I especially love! That was actually my flower for my wedding 5 years ago as well!

Here is a lovely beach themed wedding cake.  The couple got married down in Charleston.  The cake had a topper added at the wedding with some more sand and shells added to the top.  Super cute.  Love the ombre icing!

Isn't this cake darling!  Each of those flowers are handmade and color is added with edible powder!  I got the topper at Micheals.  The bride and groom did not want fondant so I just etched the lines out of the icing and added silver balls from the candy store.

Here are some matching cupcakes for the same wedding.  Everyone has to get some chocolate in somehow!

Armed Forces

The Armed Forces

People in the armed forces are so amazing!  I have so much respect for them....they deserve cake!

A birthday cake for a man who was in the 82nd airborne!

This is a cake I made for a man that was a Marine as well as a Charlotte Mecklenburg Policeman!  I took the marine symbol and replace the globe with the CMPD hornets nest for a new emblem!

This is the same cake.  I printed the last few lines of the Marine hymn. "If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven’s scenes; They will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines."

Football

Football

Football season is in full swing so I thought I would share some football team cakes I have made!  Whether its high school, college or pro there is a cake out there to be made!

Auburn University is a college in Alabama!  Go Tigers!

This is a grooms cake I made for a big Redskins fan!

Golf

Golf Cake

Living in North Carolina I know how important golf is to a lot of people!  Here is a golf cake I made for my neighbor who is an avid golfer.

Coastal

Coastal Theme'd Cakes

Who doesn't love the beach?  Who doesn't love cake?  Put them together and what do you get?  Yummy, relaxing cakes!

This is a cake I made for my nephews 1st birthday!  I cut different shaped strips of fondant and just layered them for the wave effect.

This was my nephews smash cake for his 1st birthday party!  He got this one all to himself :)

I just look at this cake and want to be on an island somewhere!  I used toasted coconut for the sand :)

Movie Theme

Movie Theme'd Cakes

A great movie deserves a great cake!

Back to the Future is one of the greatest movies of all time!  Here is a hover board cake in honor of the movie!  (I realize that Mattel is supposed to have 2 T's....lets just say I did it for copy right reasons!)

The Hunger Games was one of the best movies of the year!  This was a birthday cake with the Hunger Games theme!

Radiology

Radiology

One of my good friends works in the radiology department at our local hospital.  I made this for her to bring to a work function!

Men and their rides

Men and their rides!

From bicycles to motorcycles ....... everyone has a preference on how to get from point A to point B.  These are not just hobbies for men of course, I just made these cakes with men in mind!

The cake below was made for an avid bike rider.  The circle on top is actually a copy of his bike wheel!

Can you tell this is for a Harley rider?

I took a picture of Gregg's bike and tried to copy it out of fondant

Little Girls Birthdays

Little Girls Birthdays

I have so much fun making little girls birthday cakes!  Making anything from the barbie dress cakes to more specialized cakes you know its going to put a smile on their faces!

This is a Lalaloopsy cake.  My sister thinks these dolls are the best thing since ...well...CAKE!  So I made her this cake for her (29th) birthday!

Here is a pony cake!  This little girl loves horses so I tried a cake and a half.  This one is a regular 8 inch cake then I made one 6 inch layer, cut it in half and staked it so it created a half layer!  Just a fun, different visual effect!

First Communion

First Communion

A special event deserves a special cake.

This cake was made for my neighbor daughters first communion!  Most cake supply companies sell molds for specialized cakes.  For this one I just made a large sheet cake and cut the cross shape out of it.  You end up with a lot of waste cake but you can freeze that and make cake pops later!  This was you don't have to worry about storage for all  your specialized cake pans!  The rosary I made out of fum paste and strung them like real beads so they moved like a real rosary.  It really gave the cake a personalized effect!

This cake was made for another first communion.  She wanted purple and ruffles so here is what we came up with....

21st Birthday

21st Birthday Cake

This cake was made for a pool lovers 21st birthday!  A lot of fun!  If you want to go a step further you can change the pool balls to be the numbers to make up the birthday year.

Batman

Batman Cakes

Well as most of you know there is the old style of batman and the new style.  The old style is more comic book like with the silly stunts and visual sound effects.  The new style is more cartoon like.  I have made cakes with both likenesses.

Here is the new style.  We added a plastic batman figurine to this cake because the child was 3 and we thought it would be more visually appealing to him.

Here is the older styling.

I also made some cookies to match!  I made a basic soft sugar cookie for the base.  Then I mixed confectioner sugar with a few drops of water and dying this different colors.  I left it pretty thick and painted it on!

This was my first attempt at cake pops!  When I am modeling a cake I take all the scrapes and put them in a Ziploc with some icing.  I can then take that out when I need cake pops.  Let it thaw a bit, mix it together then roll it in balls!  Works perfect, reduces waist and they have the most amazing taste!

Here is another batman cake for an adult.  Love how this came out!
